Cameron Burrell Named Track Athlete OTW

PROVIDENCE â€" Senior sprinter Cameron Burrell has been named the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The award for Burrell is his second in as many weeks after winning Field Athlete of the Week following the first week of the season.
In front of his home fans, Burrell ran the 60-meter dash at the Leonard Hilton Invitational on Friday. Burrell opened his sprinting season with a 6.74 in the preliminary round of the 60, before qualifying for the finals with a 6.70 in the second heat. In the finals, Burrell clocked a 6.66 to claim the victory and post the sixth fastest time in the NCAA this season. His mark also ranks him 12th on the world list, according to IAAF.org.
On January 10, Burrell was named the American Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the long jump at the Reveille Invitational. His mark of 24-7.0 (7.49m) ranks 16th in the NCAA this season and is the top mark in The American.
The award for Houston is the fourth this season after Burrell (Field), Brian Barraza (Track) and Tori Williams (Track) each earned their respective awards following the first week of the season.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb. Houston will return home for its first 2-day meet of the season, the Houston Invitational, on Jan. 27-28.
