• Houston defeated Texas State, 64-3, to improve to 421-352-15 all-time.
• With the win, Houston improved to 4-0 on the year.
• The win marked the second consecutive season the Cougars have started 4-0. The last time Houston achieved the feat of back-to-back 4-0 starts was 1989 (4-0) and 1990 (8-0). The 4-0 start is the 10th in program history.
• Houston returns to action at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, when they host American Athletic Conference foe UConn at TDECU Stadium.
• Houston won the toss and chose to defer. Texas State chose to receive. Seniors Brandon Wilson, Cameron Malveaux, Tyler McCloskey and Greg Ward Jr., were captains.

OFFENSE
• The Houston offense scored points on all seven of its first-half drives including six touchdowns and one field goal.
• After running backs Duke Catalon and Dillon Birden each found the end zone on the ground, the Cougars now have had seven different players reach pay dirt including Greg Ward Jr., Kyle Postma, Kevrin Justice, Mulbah Car and Josh Burrell.
• The Cougars scored at least 50 points for the first time since a 52-31 victory over Navy on Nov. 27, 2015. Houston had four 50+ point games in 2015.
• Houston finished the game with 563 total yards of offense marking the third consecutive 500-yard game for the Cougars.
• The 61-point win is the largest margin of victory for the Cougars since a 73-3 win over Louisiana Tech on Aug. 31, 1991.
• Houston scored 60 points in a game for the first time since a 62-13 win over Southern in the 2013 season opener. The last time the Cougars scored 60 points against an FBS program was Nov. 10, 2011, when they won 73-17 at Tulane.
• Houston's 64 points is the most that Texas State has allowed in a contest since Sept. 4, 2010, when they fell 68-28 to the Cougars.
• The Cougars were a perfect 3-for-3 converting fourth downs in the game. On the season Houston is now 8-10 when going on fourth down.
DEFENSE
• Houston's defense held the Bobcats to 33 yards rushing in the contest, marking the sixth straight opponent the Cougars have held under 100 yards on the ground. Houston held Cincinnati to 30 yards last week, Lamar to 15 yards the week before and Oklahoma to 70 yards in their opener. To close out the 2015-16 season the Cougars held Temple to 98 yards in the American Championship Game while keeping Florida State at 16 in the Peach Bowl.
• Houston's defense entered the contest ranked No. 1 in the nation in rushing yards allowed, holding opponents to 38.3 yards per contest through the first three games.
• With an interception in the game, the Cougars now have 115 turnovers since 2013 marking the most in the NCAA.
• Houston has shut out opponents in nine of 16 quarters this season.
• The Cougar defense collected nine tackles for loss in Saturday night's game. Houston entered the contest first in the conference and tied for 22nd in the nation in the category with 25.
SPECIAL TEAMS
• D'Eriq King's 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the 23rd in program history for the Cougars.
• Houston now has two special teams touchdowns this season including King's kick return and Brandon Wilson's 100-yard missed field goal return, and now have 20 in the last seven years.
• Houston has had multiple special teams touchdowns in each of the last six seasons.
• The 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was tied for the seventh longest in school history. Houston has had 100-yard returns six times and one other 99-yarder (Tyron Carrier, 2009).
Greg Ward Jr.
• Senior Greg Ward Jr., is 22-2 as the Cougars' starting quarterback. He holds Houston's career record with a .917 winning percentage and is the only starting quarterback in school history with a perfect season after going 13-0 in 2015.
• Ward has won an NCAA-leading 17 consecutive starts with the Cougars. He has not lost since a 38-31 win at Cincinnati on Dec. 6, 2014.
• Ward opened the scoring for the Cougars on a 10-yard scamper on Houston's first offensive drive of the game. The rushing touchdown gives Ward 32 in his career breaking a tie for third on the all-time Houston rushing touchdown list with Jackie Battle (2003-06).
• After throwing for two touchdowns in the contest, Ward now has 10 career games with multiple passing touchdowns.
• With his 289-yard passing game, Ward now has had at least 200 yards passing or 100 yards rushing in each of the last 16 full games he his played in.
• With his 289 yards passing, Ward now has 6,084 career passing yards making him the seventh player in school history to eclipse 6,000 yards.
• With 328 combined passing and rushing yards in the game, Ward now has 8,054 total career offensive yards, becoming just the sixth player in school history to pass the 8,000-yard mark and sitting just four yards behind Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware.
D'Eriq King
• Freshman QB/WR D'Eriq King caught a swing pass from quarterback Greg Ward Jr., and took it 48 yards to the end zone with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter for his first career touchdown reception. The score, which extended Houston's lead to 13-0 was a new career long for King.
• King would find the end zone again in a different manner in the second quarter when he took a hand off from Ward Jr., and connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass with Steven Dunbar.
• King became the first Cougar to catch a touchdown pass and throw a touchdown pass since Demarcus Ayers against Navy on Nov. 27, 2015.
• The second half opened with King's third different type of touchdown when he returned the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards for the score. The kickoff return touchdown is the first for the Cougars since Brandon Wilson's 94-yard return against UConn last season and the 23rd kickoff return for a score in program history.
• The 99-yard return is tied for the seventh longest kickoff return for a touchdown in school history. Houston has had six 100-yard returns, while Tyron Carrier had the programs only other 99-yard return against Rice in 2009.
• King finished the day with a new career-best 61 yards on four receptions and a touchdown.
• According to best available records, King is the first player in school history to throw for a touchdown, catch a receiving touchdown and return a kickoff for a touchdown in the same game. He is also the first player in the NCAA to do so since Eric Page of Toledo in 2010.
Matthew Adams
• Junior linebacker Matthew Adams registered a sack and a forced fumble on a big third down deep in Texas State territory in the first quarter. The sack was the first of the season for Adams and the fifth of his career, while the forced fumble was his second after registering one against Oklahoma.
Duke Catalon
• On Houston's third possession of the game, sophomore running back Duke Catalon busted a 35-yard run to register a new career best. Catalon ended the game with a team-high 70 yards on 10 carries.
• Catalon found the end zone for the first time in his career on the ground with a 13-yard score at 10:40 remaining in the first half. The touchdown is the second total score of his career after a receving touchdown against Oklahoma in the season opener. Catalon also became the sixth Cougar to score a rushing touchdown this season.
Ty Cummings
• With 2:06 remaininng in the first quarter, senior kicker Ty Cummings connected on a 31-yard field goal to extend the lead to 16-0. The made field goal for Cummings was the 14th of his career.
Steven Dunbar
• Junior wide receiver Steven Dunbar caught his first touchdown pass of the season on a 15-yard wide reciever pass from D'Eriq King. Dunbar finished the game with five catches for 79 yards and now has five career touchdown receptions.
Dillon Birden
• With 4:01 remaining in the first half, junior running back Dillon Birden scored on a 2-yard rush to make the score 36-3 Houston. The score for Birden was the first of his career. Birden became the seventh player this season to score a rushing touchdown for Houston.
Linell Bonner
• Junior wide receiver Linell Bonner caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Greg Ward Jr., with just 29 seconds remaining in the first half to extend the lead to 43-3 Houston. Bonner's touchdown reception was his first of the season and the sixth of his career.
Howard Wilson
• Early in the second half, sophomore cornerback Howard Wilson intercepted his third pass of the season. Wilson intercepted two passes last week against Cincinnati and even returned one for a pick-6. The DeSoto, Texas native now has seven career interceptions.
KYLE POSTMA
• With the score 50-3, quarterback Kyle Postma entered the game midway through the third quarter and immediately made an impact on a 21-yard rush for a touchdown.
• Postma scored again on the ground late in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 64-3. The second score matches a career high in rushing touchdowns in a game with two, which he also had earlier this season in his start against Lamar.
• The scores on the ground were the third and fourth of the season for Postma and the fifth and sixth of his career.
Garrett Davis
• Sophomore safety Garrett Davis set a new career best in tackles with a team-high seven. Davis' previous best came in the season opener against Oklahoma where he had six.
Joeal Williams
• Late in the third quarter, sophomore cornerback Joeal Williams sacked Texas State quarterback Tyler Jones for a 13-yard loss to register his first career sack.
Aymiel Fleming
• Freshman defensive end Aymiel Fleming registered his first career sack on third down early in the fourth quarter to force a Texas State punt.
Joel Scarbrough
• Redshirt freshman kicker Joel Scarbrough made his debut with the Cougars when he connected on an extra point late in the fourth quarter.
