SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. â€" The University of Houston Men's Golf program opens its 2016-17 season on Friday when it tees off at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club.
A year ago, the Cougars won five team championships with six individual titles and tied for 19th at the NCAA Championship at Eugene Country Club.

TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete against UAB, Georgia Tech, California, Baylor, Grand Canyon, Chattanooga, Hawai'i, Notre Dame, Kent State, LSU, Augusta, South Carolina, USF and host Arizona State.
THE LINEUP
Michael Perras â€" 2016 PING All-America Honorable Mention… 2016 PING All-Central Region Team… 2016 All-American Athletic Conference Team… 2016 NCAA Franklin and 2015 HBU Husky Intercollegiate individual champion… Led Cougars with 71.62 scoring average and 22 rounds of par or better… Tied school record with 63 in First Round of HBU Husky Intercollegiate on Sept. 21, 2015… Won the Greystone Invitational during the summer to equal feat accomplished by Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke during his collegiate playing days at Auburn.
Matt Williams â€" Competed in six tournaments a year ago, compiling a 74.41 average with five rounds of par or better… Enjoyed a successful summer entering the 2015-16 season… Tied for third at The Glencoe Invitational and joined teammate Emmett Oh among the top-four leaders at that event… Finished second at the Alberta Amateur Championships where he joined Oh among the top-seven leaders.
Emmett Oh â€" Three-year letterman and three-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team… Posted a 74.33 scoring average with eight rounds of par or better in 2015-16… Fired a career-low 66 in Second Round of OGIO Utah Invitational on Oct. 5, 2015… Finished second at The Glencoe Invitational and tied for sixth at the Alberta Amateur Championship during the summer.
Papito Gonzalez â€" Competed in 12 tournaments a year ago and finished with a 73.15 average with 12 rounds of par or better… Earned first individual title of collegiate career with 1-stroke victory at President's Day Challenge… Posted a career-low 67 in the Second Round at the Cougars' own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 19, 2016.
Matt Scobie â€" Three-year letterman and one of three seniors… Sat out most of the spring 2016 season with a foot injury but recovered to help lead the Cougars to a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Championships… Posted a team-low 68 in the Final Round of that tournament… Fired consecutive 66s at the OGIO Invitational on Oct. 5, 2015 on the way to a fourth-place finish. Jacob Veerman â€" Competing as individual this weekend… Made his collegiate debut with the Cougars at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational… Sat out as a redshirt at Texas A&M during the 2014-15 season.
PAIRINGS
For Friday's and Saturday's First and Second Rounds, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Georgia State and UAB.
The Cougars will tee off at 9 a.m. (CDT) off No. 1 for Friday's First Round and begin the Second Round off No. 10 at 9 a.m. (CDT) Saturday.
Tee times for Sunday's Final Round will be based on team standings after Saturday's round.
UP NEXT
Following the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, the Cougars return home to play host to the Bayou City Collegiate Championships on Oct. 10-11.
Houston will team with Sam Houston State and Rice to host the two-day, 54-hole event at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas.
