FRANKLIN, Tenn. â€" Junior Megan Thothong and sophomore Leonie Harm each posted 73s during Saturdays Second Round to lead the University of Houston Women's Golf program at the Mason Rudolph Championships at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Starting Saturday's round on No. 10, Thothong battled only one bogey on her front nine and overcame a slow start to her back nine to sink three birdies in her final four holes. The Dallas native stood in a tie for 34th at 149.
Harm sank her first birdie of the day on No. 15 and capped her day with another birdie on her final hole of the round to stand in a tie for 26th at 148.
The Cougars bettered their First Round team score by a stroke with total of 298 on Saturday but slipped into 12th with a two-day total of 597.
Making her collegiate debut, junior Ivon Reijers continued to lead the Cougars at 147 to tie for 22nd.
Junior Kelli Rollo was tied for 55th at 153, while junior Allie Andersen was tied for 67th at 156.
Alabama enjoyed a team score of 10-under-par 278 Saturday and held an 18-stroke advantage over second-place Northwestern. SMU stood in third at 581 with UCF (584), Chattanooga (587) and Auburn (587) rounding out the top-6 leaders.
Individually, Alabama's Cheyenne Knight posted her second straight round in the 60s to finish the round at 9-under 135, four strokes ahead of teammate Kristen Gillman and Michigan State's Sarah Burnham. Baylor's Maggie Beth Byers and Auburn's Elena Hualde were tied for fourth at 140.
FINAL ROUND on SUNDAY
The three-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Sunday morning. Teeing off No. 10, the Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Tulane and Troy.
Andersen begins the day at 8:15 a.m., with Rollo (8:25 a.m.), Thothong (8:35 a.m.), Harm (8:45 a.m.) and Reijers (8:55 a.m.) following.
