FRANKLIN, Tenn. â€" The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in 10th place after posting a team score of 299 on Friday during the First Round of the Mason Rudolph Championships at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Making her collegiate debut, junior Ivon Reijers fired an even-par 72 on the 6,451-yard course to tie for 18th and lead the Cougars. The Barcelona native led Houston with five birdies, including three on the final five holes of her front nine.
Reijers joined the Cougars at the semester break a year ago out of Redlands Community College but sat out the spring as a redshirt.
Sophomore Leonie Harm finished with a 75 and was tied for 38th, while juniors Allie Andersen, Kelli Rollo and Megan Thothong were tied for 47th with 76s.
Andersen, who is a native of The Woodlands, Texas, made her UH debut after competing for her first two seasons at Colorado State. Rollo, who joined as a member of the Cougars' first team in 2013-14, made her UH debut in team competition.
Northwestern and Alabama tied for the team lead at 4-under-284 through the first day. SMU stood in third at 288 with Auburn (289), UCF (291), Troy (291), Chattanooga (292, Baylor (295) and Vanderbilt (295) rounding out the top-8 leaders.
Alabama's Cheyenne Knight and Auburn's Elena Hualde stood atop the individual leaderboard with 68s, while Sarah Burnham of Michigan State was in third at 69.
SECOND ROUND on SATURDAY
The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues with the Second Round on Saturday morning. Teeing off No. 10, the Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Tulane and Michigan State.
Rollo begins the day at 8:45 a.m., with Andersen (8:55 a.m.), Thothong (9:05 a.m.), Harm (9:15 a.m.) and Reijers (9:25 a.m.) following.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round starting at 8 a.m., Sunday.
