Houston Men Ranked in Top 25 Preseason Rankings

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Men's Track & Field program opened the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings Wednesday in the top 25. Coming in at 25th, the Houston men are ranked second among programs in The American Athletic Conference, trailing just No. 23 Tulsa.
The American's defending indoor conference champions, Houston totaled 32.34 points in the national rankings, led by senior hurdler Isaac Williams, who is ranked No. 2 nationally in the 60-meter hurdles after claiming The American title and All-America honors in the event last season.
Junior Cameron Burrell is ranked No. 9 in the 60-meter dash and is one of two Cougars to land in the top 15 as The American's two-time defending champion in the event, senior LeShon Collins, is ranked No. 13.
A pair in the shot put ring adds to Houston's ranking as junior Cameron Cornelius, The American's two-time defending champion, is No. 20 and sophomore Felipe Valencia is No. 34. Sophomore Trumaine Jefferson comes in at No. 21 in the long jump. Houston's distance medley relay closes out the rankings, coming in at No. 23 nationally.
On the women's side, junior sprinter Bria Carter holds the Cougars' lone preseason ranking, coming in at No. 32 in the 60-meter dash, an event she claimed The American title in 2015.
Houston returns to action on Friday, Jan. 15, when it hosts the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational inside the Athletics/Alumni Center. Tickets for the meet are $10 for adults and $7 for children ages three through high school at the facility's entrance the day of the meet.
