Nine Cougars Head to Oregon for NCAA Championships

Eugene, Ore. - Nine Houston Cougar track and field student-athletes will make their way to Eugene, Ore., for the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, to be held Wednesday, June 10 through Saturday, June 13 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
The NCAA Championships begin Wednesday, June 10 at 1 p.m. CT with the women's heptathlon 100m hurdles. Houston's first event will be the men's 4x100m Relay, beginning at 6 p.m.
Juniors LeShon Collins, James Arnett and Issac Williams, and sophomore Curtis Brown ran 39.56 in the 4x100m Relay at the NCAA West Regional to qualify seventh. The Cougars will run in Heat 3 against Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas, Texas A&M, LIU Brooklyn, Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Iowa. The best two teams from each heat, plus the next two best times, will qualify for the finals on Friday, June 12 at 6:35 p.m.
Williams will also be in action later Wednesday afternoon, competing individually in the men's 110m hurdles at 7:02 p.m. The Willingboro, N.J., native holds the sixth-fastest 110m hurdle time in the NCAA this season (13.56) and qualified with the 10th-fastest time at the NCAA West Regional when he clocked a 13.76. Williams, the only Cougar to have qualified for each of the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, is slated to run in Heat 1 of the 110m hurdles alongside Omar McLeod from Arkansas who holds the nation's top time this season at 13.21.,
The two best individuals from each heat in the 110m hurdles, plus the next two fastest times, will qualify for the finals on Friday, June 12 at 7:15 p.m.
The second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships begins at noon on Thursday, June 11 with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles. The Cougar women's 4x100m Relay team will compete in the first running event of the day at 6 p.m.
The relay team consisting of seniors Kiersten Brewer, Sade-Mariah Greenidge and Brittany Kinney as well as sophomore Bria Carter clocked a season-best 44.52 at the NCAA West Regional to qualify with the sixth-fastest preliminary time. Houston will run in Heat 3 against the nation's top team in the regular season, Texas A&M, as well as SMU, Oklahoma, Texas, Purdue, Western Kentucky and UCF with the best two teams from each heat as well as the next two fastest overall times advancing to the finals on Saturday, June 13 at 4:05 p.m.
Greenidge will run twice Thursday afternoon, as she will compete in the women's 100m hurdle semifinal at 7:02 p.m. The Bridgetown, Barbados native clocked a season-best 13.31 to qualify ninth at the NCAA West Regional. Greenidge will be in Lane 1 of the second heat, where she will run against Cindy Ofili from Michigan, who holds the NCAA's third-best 100m hurdle time this season at 12.81. The finals of the 100m hurdles will consist of the best two times from each heat as well as the next two fastest times overall and will be held Saturday, June 13 at 4:45 p.m.
Kinney's second stint of action will come on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships when the Karnes City, Texas native will be on the runway for the women's triple jump at 4 p.m., and will be competing in Flight 2. Kinney jumped a personal best 12.83m to qualify eighth at the NCAA West Regional and place her third on the Houston all-time outdoor triple jump list. The nine best jumps from the combined two flights will advance to the finals following the second flight.
