AUSTIN - The Houston Cougar track and field team qualified three individual athletes and each of its men's and women's 4x100m relays teams for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, in Austin, Texas.
Senior jumper Brittany Kinney became the first Houston Cougar to qualify for the NCAA Championships this season after her eighth place finish in the women's triple jump. The Karnes City, Texas native jumped a new personal record of 12.83m to punch her ticket to Nationals. Kinney's leap places her third on the all-time Cougar triple jump list.
In the evening running session, Kinney would earn another berth in the NCAA Championships along with teammates, sophomore Bria Carter, senior Sade-Mariah Greenidge, and Kiersten Brewer. The team ran 44.52 to qualify with the sixth-fastest time in the event.
Greenidge would go on to collect her own individual berth in the NCAA Championships after picking up a top-12 finish in the women's 100m hurdles.
