Cougars Wrap Opening Day of NCAA West Regional

AUSTIN - The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams finished day one of the NCAA West Regional where they had four student-athletes in competition on Thursday, in Austin, Texas.
Senior Sade-Mariah Greenidge began the day with her first of two events, the 400m hurdles finishing 38th in 1:01.85. The Bridgetown, Barbados native will also compete in the 100m hurdles on Friday.
Sophomore Bria Carter turned in Houston's top finish on the day improving five spots from her regular season rank in the 100m dash. Carter posted a new personal best 11.51 to finish 27th.
Junior LeShon Collins also ran the 100m dash on the men's side posting a 10.43 to finish 33rd.
In the middle distance, senior Drevan Anderson-Kaapa ended Thursday's action for Houston in the 800m dash. Anderson-Kaapa crossed the finish line in 1:50.79 to finish 31st.
Houston begins the second day of the NCAA West Regional with the women's discus at noon, on Friday, May 29. Running events start for the Cougars at 5 and 5:30 p.m., with the first round of the women's 100m hurdles, and the men's 110m hurdles respectively. The men's shot put ends second day field action for Houston at 6 p.m., while the first round of the women's and men's 200m closes out the running at 8 and 8:25 p.m., respectively.
