NCAA postseason baseball returns to Cougar Field for just the third time in program history and for the first time since 2000 as Houston Baseball was selected by the Division I NCAA Selection Committee as one of 16 regional hosts for the 2015 NCAA Baseball Championship, set for May 29-31.
After recording its second straight 40-win season and notching its first regular-season conference title since 2002, Houston Baseball was rewarded for that success.
Along with the 2015 NCAA Regional, which is scheduled to begin on Friday afternoon, Cougar Field also hosted the 2000 Regional after winning the C-USA Regular Season and Tournament titles and went on to host a Super Regional that same year. Houston also hosted an NCAA Regional in 1999, finishing as the regional runner-up.
Overall, this will mark the Cougars' second straight NCAA Regional appearance and 20th in program history, while only serving as a host three times (2015, 2000, 1999).
The Cougars will enter NCAA postseason play with a record of 42-18 and have won 19 of its last 23 games and holds an RPI of 14 following the American Athletic Conference Championship.
The 42-win season marks the second straight 40-win season under head coach Todd Whitting and is the first back-to-back 40-win seasons since 1999-2000 for the program. The Cougars went 25-6 at home this season, notching the second consecutive 25-season with 25 wins at Cougar Field.
