HOUSTON - University of Houston Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Hunter Yurachek announced Friday the promotion of Jeramiah Dickey as the program's Deputy Athletics Director. The promotion is the fourth of Dickey's tenure at UH since arriving in May of 2010 and the latest since being promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations in the spring of 2014.
"We are excited to name Jeramiah Dickey our Deputy Athletics Director at the University of Houston. His passion for our University, Department of Athletics and supporters, along with his commitment to building champions for life, gives our department great energy," said Yurachek. "He has continued to rise throughout our ranks thanks to his tireless work ethic and focused mentality. Under his leadership our external arm has pushed the envelope to set records and we look forward to his expanded leadership in our department. We are happy that Jeramiah, his wife Elizabeth, and their daughter Emerson will continue to be a part of the Cougar family."
As Associate AD for External Relations, Dickey oversaw all of the Houston Athletics' external units, which set records for fundraising and ticket sales under his leadership. He also served as the department's liaison to University Advancement, University of Houston Alumni Association and IMG, the multimedia rights partner for Houston Athletics along with serving as the sport administrator for the nationally-ranked Houston Baseball program and secondary sport administrator for the Houston Football program.
"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity Hunter and the University of Houston have provided me. This is a testament to my family, our supporters and my teammates within our department," said Dickey. "I am passionate about the University of Houston and am extremely excited for the future of Houston Athletics. I appreciate the opportunity Mack Rhoades provided me five years ago and I look forward to continue Building Champions for Life under Hunter's leadership."
Under Dickey's leadership, Cougar Pride, the development arm of Houston Athletics, has set fundraising records in five consecutive fiscal years. During the 2013-14 fiscal year, more than 3,100 Cougar Pride members contributed $4.5 million, topping the previous record of $3.5 million, in support of nearly 400 Houston student-athletes. The record number does not include private donations to any capital campaigns or donations to sport-specific booster clubs and gives Cougar Pride an increase of $2.8 million in annual funds raised since $1.7 million was collected in 2009.
He was instrumental in the University of Houston securing a 10-year, $15 million naming rights partnership with TDECU, an agreement that ranked third nationally among all collegiate facilities for corporate naming agreements, while serving on the stadium's opening committee. In December of 2014, Dickey was an instrumental member of the hiring committee for Houston Football head coach Tom Herman.
In its first year under Dickey's umbrella, the Houston Athletics ticket sales department was implemented and sold a record 15,022 Houston Football season tickets while Houston Baseball season tickets members increased by 185 percent in 2014-15.
Dickey came to Houston after serving for more than three years as assistant athletics director for development at the University of Akron. During his tenure, he oversaw the Zips Athletics Scholarship Fund and solicited restricted sport-specific donations as well as major and capital campaign gifts.
In a four-year stretch, his office increased overall giving from nearly $900,000 in 2005-06 to more than $2.2 million in 2009-10. It was the first time in the history of the Akron Athletics Department that giving topped the $2 million mark.
Dickey played a key role in creating capital campaign initiatives including naming opportunities for a variety of projects, including InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field, the Lee Jackson Track and Field Complex, the Lee Jackson Soccer Facility and the Center for Basketball Excellence in James A. Rhodes Arena.
Dickey, an El Paso, Texas, native, previously worked at UTEP with Rhoades as the assistant director for athletics development. In addition to his primary role of managing and developing the Miner Athletic Club Annual Gift Fund, he successfully coordinated several projects, including a volunteer fund drive that resulted in nearly $400,000 in new season ticket sales and donations and a business campaign resulting in more than $40,000 in new contributions.
He began his tenure at UTEP in 2003, moving through marketing and promotions as the assistant director before making the transition to development. During his one year in that position, he generated revenue through sponsorship and group ticket sales while acting as the community relations and advertising coordinator.
Dickey earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from the University of Texas in 2004 and will receive his master's degree in sports science and coaching from Akron this fall.
He and his wife, Elizabeth, have one daughter, Emerson.
