Brown, Williams Claim Conference Titles on Final Day

Storrs, Conn. - The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams finished third and seventh respectively, while junior Issac Williams won the 110m hurdle and senior David Brown claimed the triple jump conference championship at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday, in Storrs. Conn.
Brown set a new personal best when he leaped 50'-8.25" (15.45m) to win the triple jump title by nearly eight feet over UConn junior Amanze Williams (50'-0.5"). The Texas A&M transfer also scored points for the Cougars in the long jump competition on Saturday.
Williams won his third-career individual conference championship when he claimed the 110m hurdle championship for the second consecutive season. Williams ran 13.59 to break his own meet record that he set last year.
The Cougars earned All-American Athletic Conference honors in 11 events on Sunday, including 10 individuals and the 4x100m relay team. The Cougar relay consisting of Williams, Xavier Floyd, James Arnett and Curtis Brown won the event by setting a new stadium record, and season best 39.97.
Collins and Brown would go on to earn individual All-American Conference honors on Sunday. Collins earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100m (10.44) and 200m (21.05) dash, while Brown claimed second in the 200m dash in 21.04.
Senior hurdler Sade-Mariah Greenidge earned All-American Athletic Conference honors in each of the 100m and 400m hurdle events. Greenidge placed second in each event after clocking a 13.37 in the 100m hurdles, and a 58.72 in the 400m hurdles.
Houston distance runners claimed a pair of second place finishes in the 800m and 5000m competitions. Senior Drevan Anderson-Kaapa turned in a time of 1:50.57, while sophomore Brian Barraza ran 14:36.78 to finish runner-up in the 5K.
Sophomore thrower Cameron Cornelius fell just shy of repeating as the American Athletic Conference champion in the shot put after throwing 17.95m on his final throw. Corenlius missed the title by just .07 meters.
The men's team finished third in the overall standings with 124.50 points, while the women claimed seventh place with 63 points.
