Action at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at the McFerrin Athletic Center is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., on Saturday, with the finals of the men's high jump and the women's shot put. The Pentathlons begin at 2 p.m., with the men's and women's 60m hurdles, while running events are scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m., with the men's and women's 60m hurdles. The Cougars are scheduled to compete against the host school Texas A&M as well as TCU at the Reveille Invite.
2015 marks the eighth consecutive season the Cougars will open their indoor campaign in College Station. The Houston men finished second at the 2014 Texas A&M Reveille Invitational, while the women placed fourth overall.
Then-junior Issac Williams opened an impressive campaign at the 2014 Reveille Invitational when he won the 60m hurdles in 8.11. Williams would go on to break the Houston program record in the 60m hurdles before qualifying for the NCAA Championships in both the 60m hurdles during the indoor season, and the 110m hurdles in the outdoor.
Then-sophomores Cameron Burrell and Cameron Cornelius also won their individual events with Burrell claiming the 60m dash title in a meet-record 6.66, while Cornelius won the shot put with a mark of 17.41m (57'1.5"). Cougar alum Sade Mariah Greenidge claimed gold for the women in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64.
The Cougars capped the 2014 Texas A&M Reveille Invitational with 11 top-3 finishes.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN 2015
- The Cougar men begin their 2014 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship defense, and will do so by returning 12 athletes who scored in 15 events, including Williams, Cornelius and senior LeShon Collins, who all claimed individual conference championships. The men will also return Burrell and sophomore Trumaine Jefferson, who missed The American Indoor Championship meet due to injury.
- The Cougar men welcome a class of freshmen to Houston that earned national attention over the summer. Both MileSplit and Track & Field News rated the 2015 Houston men's recruiting class as the second-best in the nation. The class is highlighted by Marcus McWilliams (110m hurdles), Gerald Mills (200m) and John Lewis III (100m), who each earned outdoor All-American honors in their senior season.
- Junior Bria Carter returns to lead the Cougar women in 2016, and will look to repeat as American Athletic Conference Champion in the 60m hurdles. The Cougar women added 18 freshman and four transfers to bolster a team that finished seventh at the 2015 American Indoor Championships.
