GAME NOTES
• Houston improves to 408-351-15 all-time.
• With Saturday's win, Head Coach Tom Herman still remains only the second head coach in Houston history to win the first four games of his career. He joined John Jenkins (8-0 in 1990) as the only Houston head coaches to accomplish that feat.
• Houston won the toss and deferred to the second half. Senior running back Kenneth Farrow, tackle Alex Cooper, defensive back Adrian McDonald and linebacker Elandon Roberts were all named captains for the game.
• Houston improves to 360-318-14 when playing on Saturdays.
• Houston improves to 22-6 when playing on CBS Sports Network.
SERIES vs. TULSA
• Houston improves to 22-18 all-time against Tulsa. Saturday's game Houston's 9th win at Tulsa bringing Houston's record on the road against the Golden Hurricane to 9-9.
• Prior to Saturday's game, the last time the Cougars defeated the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa was Nov. 25, 2011 with a final score of 48-16.
UP NEXT for HOUSTON
• The Cougars continue American Athletic Conference play next week as they retrun home to TDECU Stadium on Oct. 8 to host SMU. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2 and KPRC 950 AM in Houston.
OFFENSE
• With 38 points, the Cougars have now scored in 189 consecutive games. Houston has not been shut out since a 48-0 loss to Texas on Sept. 23, 2000.
• The Cougars have scored touchdowns on their opening drives in all four games this season. Houston opened the 2015 season with an 8-play, 56-yard touchdown drive that was capped by Ryan Jackson's 1-yard run. The Cougars opened the Louisville game with a 6-play, 51-yard drive that was capped by Greg Ward Jr.'s 29-yard touchdown pass to Steven Dunbar. Houston opened the Texas State game with a 5-play, 85-yard drive that was capped by Ward Jr's 35-yard touchdown pass to Chance Allen, marking Allen's first career touchdown at Houston. The Tulsa game began with a 9-play, 75-yard drive over 2:26 and ended in a Greg Ward Jr. 3-yard rush for the score.
• Houston now has nine touchdown drives of two minutes or less and three of less than a minute on the season after a pair of drives last 1:29 and 49 seconds in the first half.
• Quarterback Greg Ward Jr., and running back Kenneth Farrow each went over 100 yards rushing, marking the first time Houston has had multipe 100-yard rushers since Farrow and Ryan Jackson each eclipsed the century mark on November 22, 2014 against Tulsa. Houston has now had multiple 100-yard rushers in a game for the 51st time in program history.
• Houston matched Tulsa's worst loss of the season with the 14-point victory as the Golden Hurricane also fell to No. 15 Oklahoma 52-38 on September 19.
• With a combined 341 rushing yards, junior quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. (182) and senior running back Kenneth Farrow (159) posted the highest combined yardage by a Cougar duo since running backs Anthony Alridge (225) and Jackie Battle (136) totaled 361 rushing yards at SMU on Nov. 11, 2006.
DEFENSE
• With two turnovers forced (1 fumble, 1 interception), the Cougars have forced multiple turnovers in 31 of their last 38 games.
• Houston defenses have forced 82 turnovers over the last two seasons.
• The 10 points the Cougars allowed in the first half is the fewest that Tulsa has scored in the first half in its first four games of the season.
• The Houston defense held the Golden Hurricane scoreless in the second half marking the first time this season that Tulsa has been shutout in a quarter.
• Houston's defense held the Tulsa offense to season lows in points (24), rushing yards (130), passing yards (326) and total yards (456). The Golden Hurricane entered the contest averaging 216.3 rushing yards, 390.7 passing yards and 607.0 total yards per game.
Greg Ward Jr.
• Ward Jr. opened the scoring for Houston with a 3-yard touchdown run on the opening drive for Houston. The junior now has been responsible for a touchdown in 12-straight games for Houston dating back to the Memphis game on Nov. 11, 2014.
• Ward Jr. found the end zone again in the second quarter on a 32-yard touchdown run, capping a 5-play 72 yard drive. Ward's second score marked the third game this season in which he has had multiple rushing touchdowns. Ward Jr., now has seven rushing touchdowns on the season.
• Ward Jr.'s rush of 44-yards late in the first quarter is a new season long for the junior. Ward Jr. finished the contest with 20 rushes for 182 marking his second 100-yard rushing game of the season.
• Ward Jr., capped off the scoring in the first half on a 9-yard rush with 15 seconds to play in the half. Ward Jr.'s three rushing touchdowns marks the first time since SMU on November 28, 2014, that the quarterback has had three scores on the ground.
• With his 182 yards, Ward tied the Houston program record for 100-yard rushing games in a season for a quarterback with two. He last achieved the feat against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 5 (107 yards).
• Ward's 182 yards set a new Houston single-game rushing yards record by a quarterback eclipsing Lionel Wilson's 158 yards vs. TCU on October 30, 1982.
• Ward Jr., finished the game 22-38 for 273 yards passing. Ward now has 3,378 yards for his career moving him into 13th on the all-time Houston passing yards list passing Bo Burris (1964-66) who had 3,248 yards.
Logan Piper
• Senior punter Logan Piper launched a career-long, 71-yard punt midway through the second quarter to flip the field and down the ball at the two yard line. Piper finished with 3 punts for 136 yards and a 45.3 average.
Kenneth Farrow
• Senior running back Kenneth Farrow broke a 28-yard run late in the second quarter to give him a new season high. Farrow finished the game with 159 yards on 19 carries, and now has 2,402 in his career moving him into 9th all-time on the Houston rushing yard list Farrow passed Anthony Evans (2,295; 2001-05) and Gene Shannon (2,332; 1949-51) and Charles Sims (2,370, 2009-12) on the day.
• Farrow scored on a 5-yard rushing touchdown with 11:36 to play in the fourth quarter moving him into a tie for seventh with Genne Shannon, Joffrey Reynolds and Anthony Aldridge on the all-time Houston rushing touchdowns list with 23. Farrow added another score on a season-high 44-yard touchdown run with 2:21 to play in the game to move him into sole possession of seventh.
• With his 159 yards on the ground against Tulsa, Farrow now has nine 100-yard rushing games in his career moving him into a tie for ninth on the Houston career list with Bryce Beall, Antowan Smith and Jim Strong.
Steven Taylor
• Junior linebacker Steven Taylor had a tremendous first half registering a season-high 11 tackles and a new career-high 2.5 sacks in just the first half alone.
• Taylor picked up his eighth career game with double-digit tackles after finishing with a career-high 16 tackles.
• Taylor also picked up a career-high four tackles for a loss resulting in a total of 16 yards lost.
Hayden Daniels
• Senior tight end Hayden Daniels recorded his first career catch on a 33-yard reception from Greg Ward Jr., on the final drive of the second quarter.
Elandon Roberts
• Senior linebacker Elandon Roberts collected 13 tackles for his third-straight game of double digit
tackles. Roberts' performance is a new career-high for tackles.
Kyle Bullard
• Senior kicker Kyle Bullard connected on a 21-yard field goal to open the second half coring for Houston on their first drive of the third quarter. Bullard has now made 27 field goals in his career, with five coming this season.
Lee Hightower
• Senior defensive back Lee Hightower intercepted a Dane Evans pass with 2:47 to play in the third quarter for his second career interception.
Chance Allen
• Junior wide receiver Chance Allen caught a new career-high six passes for a total of 54 yards.
Steven Dunbar
• Sophomore wide receiver Steven Dunbar hauled in a season-high five receptions against Tulsa and picked up 58 yards through the air.
Cameron Malveaux
• Junior defensive end Cameron Malveaux collected 1.5 sacks against Tulsa marking a new career-high.
Tyus Bowser
• Junior linebacker Tyus Bowser forced his second-career force fumble with 4:32 to play in the game.
Trevon Stewart
• Senior defensive back Trevon Stewart recoved a fumble with 4:32 to play in the contest for his eighth career fumble recovery. Stewart moves into a tie for first all-time with Wilson Whitley on the Houston all-time fumble recoveries list.
