Cougars To Compete In 39th Annual Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - The Houston Cross Country team will compete in the 39th annual Rice Invitational on the campus of Rice University on Friday, Sept. 12 with action starting at 5:30 p.m.
The women will compete in a 4K beginning at 6:15 p.m., while the men's team will race the 6K set to begin at 6:45 p.m. The annual affair will also include a one-mile college race at 5:30 p.m., and a race open to all runners set for 5:50 p.m.
In last season's Rice Invitational, Houston finished seventh in the team standings, while the women placed ninth. Sophomore Brian Barraza had the top time for the men and finished the invitational in third place with a time of 16:50.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
The Houston men swept both teams in dual meet action against Houston Baptist and Sam Houston State in their only race of the season to this point on Aug. 22. James Broussard won the individual event with a time of 9:47 in the race that was shortened to two miles due to rain. For the women, Janae Bottoms won the individual for the women with a time of 11:46. The women split the dual meets defeating HBU while falling to Sam Houston State.
