HOUSTON - Sophomore sprinter Cameron Burrell has been named the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the 60m dash at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational, the conference announced Tuesday.
Burrell turned in the fastest time in the nation so far this season in the 60m when he crossed the line in first place with a time of 6.66. The mark for Burrell set a new meet record at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational, breaking the previous top-time set by Charles Silmon of TCU (6.67) in 2009.
Burrell, who currently holds the Houston school record in the 60m dash (6.54), picked up where he left off in 2013-14 where he earned First Team All-American honors in the 60m, in his freshman season. The honor marks the second American Track Athlete of the Week for Burrell after winning the award on January 20.
