Brian Barraza fourth At American Championships

The Houston Cougar men's and women's cross country teams finished third and sixth respectively, in the overall team standings at The American Athletic Conference Championships at Mohawk Park, in Tulsa, Okla., on Friday.
Sophomore Brian Barraza stayed on pace with the leaders the entire race finishing just 10 seconds back from the leader in fourth place at 24:53. Freshman Ebony White led the women's team with a time of 21:43 which was good enough for 16th place in her first conference meet.
Overall the men finished in third place with 96 points in the 8K, behind conference champion Tulsa (21 points) and Cincinnati (84 points). Including Barraza, the Cougars had three top-15 finishes with Blake Contreras (25:40, 11th) and James Broussard (25:50 15th) finishing with the lead pack.
The women improved four spots from 2013's inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship by finishing sixth with 175 points. Selena Sierra also crossed the line in the top-25 with a time of 21:57 in the women's 6K.

UP NEXT
Cross Country will begin preparation for the NCAA South Central Regional held in Fayetteville, Ark. on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.
The men finished the 2013 South Central regional in 11th place while the women placed 15th.
