American Championship Next Task For XC

HOUSTON -
The Houston Cougar men's and women's cross country teams will travel north to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the second annual American Athletic Conference Championship meet on Friday, Oct. 31 beginning at 10 a.m.
The women's team will get the action underway in a 6K at 10 a.m., while the men will compete in an 8K starting at 10:50 a.m. The race will be held at Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa.
The men's team is paced by sophomore Brian Barraza. The El Paso, Texas native owns two top-5 finishes this season placing second at both the Rice Invitational (16:57) and Islander Splash (25:17.7). Barraza most recently finished in the top-50, out of over 700 athletes, with a 47th place 25:02.0 in the Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
Junior James Broussard has also put together an impressive season with three, top-15 finishes. Broussard won the HBU Dual Meet with a 9:47, and finished 13th (17:31) and 11th (26:38.7) in the Rice Invite and Islander Splash respectively.
Freshman Ebony White has been tremendous for the women's team in her first collegiate season finishing in the top-five in each of her first two races. White finished the Rice Invitational in 13:43 for a fifth place finish. The following week, White won the Islander Splash with a time of 17:55. The Chesapeake, Va. Native has had the top time for Houston in all three of her races in 2014.
