Cougars Make Strides At Pre-Nationals

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men's and women's cross country teams competed against over 1500 student-athletes in the Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday.
Sophomore Brian Barraza was the top Houston finisher in the men's division with his 47th place finish in 25:02.0. Barraza's time on the course which will play host to the upcoming Nationals in November was his fastest in the 8K this season.
Freshman Ebony White continued to impress in her first collegiate season with a time of 22:51.3 and a 50th place finish. White has finished among the leaders in each race for Houston this season including a win in the Cougars' last race at the Islander Splash on Sept. 26.
The Pre-Nationals were the final tune up for Houston before heading to the American Athletic Conference championships on Oct. 31. The race consisted of 1,520 student-athletes from over 100 universities around the country including eight schools in the national top-25. The men's team finished the "Blue Race" in 42nd place while the women placed 27th in the "White Race."

Houston returns to action Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m., when it travels to the American Athletic Conference Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
