Cross Country Heads North For Pre-Nationals

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men's and women's cross country teams will travel north to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in Indiana State's Pre-National meet Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m.
The meet is divided into three separate races for each the men's and the women's division, and is scheduled to feature over 1500 student-athletes competing in the event. Eight nationally ranked teams will be in Indiana to race in the Pre-Nationals meet which will take place on the same course as the upcoming Nationals meet on Nov. 23.
The women will compete in the 6K "White Race" which is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m., and will consist of 36 teams including fellow American Athletic Conference foe Memphis. The men will run in the 8K "Blue Race" which begins at 11:35 a.m. and consists of 45 teams from around the country.
The Cougar men and women are each coming off a second place finish at the 2014 Islander Splash hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The women finished 1-2 with freshman Ebony White crossing the line first in 17.55.8 and junior Selena Sierra finishing right on her heels in 18:00.1.
Sophomore Brian Barraza was the top finisher on the men's side placing second with a 25:17.7. Senior Anthony Coleman also finished in the top-10 with a sixth place 26:30.9 finish.UP NEXT
Following the Pre-National meet, Houston has a two-week break before traveling to Tulsa, Okla. on Oct. 31 to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championships.
