THE LINEUP
As the top two performers at last week's "Mo"Morial Invitational, sophomore Raegan Bremer and junior Courtney Ferguson will compete for the Cougars at the Cardinal Cup, head coach Gerrod Chadwell announced earlier this week.
Bremer led the Cougars with a score of 225 to tie for 22nd, while Ferguson drained the first birdie on the first hole in school history and went on to tie for 31st with a score of 230.
Both players joined the Cougars after transferring from other school. Ferguson, who is a Houston native, transferred from Oklahoma State, while Bremer was an All-Big West Honorable Mention honoree at UC Davis in 2012-13.
"A quick turnaround will be a common theme for the fall. We have tried to clean up the things we struggled with at Texas A&M and polish those things we did well," Chadwell said. "At some point in each round at Texas A&M, everyone faced adversity, but everyone looked at it right in the face and were still competitive through it. I hope that all my teams will have that trademark."
THE FIELD
With only two players in their lineup, the Cougars will compete as individuals and not be eligible for the team title. Houston will compete against student-athletes from Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee, Illinois State, Cincinnati, USF, Kansas, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Ball State, Marshall, Memphis and host Louisville.
The final round of the Cardinal Cup will tee off with an 8:40 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT
In their most recent action, the Cougars officially started the program at Texas A&M's "Mo"Morial Invitational last week. Bremer led the Cougars with a score of 225 to tie for 22nd, while Ferguson drained the first birdie on the first hole in school history.
With her final shot in the final round, freshman Emily Gilbreth holed out for the program's first eagle finished in a tie for 37th with a score of 231.
