Houston Football Hosts Pro Day

Houston, Texas - Houston Football hosted its annual Pro Day on Monday and 12 Houston seniors participated in the workout in front of more than 30 National Football League scouts and front office personnel.

Bryce Beall, Sammy Brown, Tyron Carrier, Patrick Edwards, Michael Hayes, David Hunter, Justin Johnson, Case Keenum, Marcus McGraw, Nick Saenz, E.J. Smith and Chris Thompson participated with several former Cougars showing well. Carrier, despite coming off ACL surgery, was able to participate in the lifting portion, while Edwards, bouncing back from an injury that kept him out of the Senior Bowl is working his way closer to 100 percent as the 2012 NFL Draft (April 26-28) nears.

"It was great to get out there and just perform," former running back Michael Hayes said. "We have all been training for this day and looking forward to it, so it was a memorable experience."

Hayes was one of many former UH standouts to perform well in the Monday session. Hayes had 23 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press, second on the squad to David Hunter's 32 and showed well in the 40 yard dash with a 4.55.

Safety Nick Saenz logged the fastest 40-yard dash time on Monday, clocking a 4.46. Edwards ran a 4.59, but of course will see that time improve once at full strength.

NFL Teams In Attendance
Other notes from Pro Day (special thanks to Sam Khan of the Houston Chronicle) at least 22 NFL teams were spotted on Monday. Those in attendance included: Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Green Bay, Houston Indianapolis, Kansas City, New England, New Orleans, New York Giants, New York Jets, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa and Tennessee.

Bring On Spring Ball
While several former Cougars have their sights set on professional football, Houston Football will fire up Spring Ball on Wednesday, the first under new head coach Tony Levine. Practice begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. and will be open to the public. Practice will be held on the UH practice fields behind the Athletics Alumni Center. The team will have three practices this week, also competing at 4 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. on Saturday morning at Robertson Stadium.
