HOUSTON - Almost a week removed from the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the University of Houston track and field team is back in action this Friday as it sends three student-athletes to the Arkansas Last Chance Meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
One Cougar who has his ticket punched for the NCAA Indoor Championships with his 46.12, school record breaking 400m dash is Errol Nolan. He is currently ranked third nationally in the event, just .12 seconds from the auto-qualifying mark.
Nolan is also currently ranked 10th in the 200m dash with his time of 20.99, and depending on how meets across the country go over the next few days, that should be good enough for a trip to the NCAAs in Nampa, Idaho as well.
C-USA long jump champion Isaiah Sweeney, who currently ranks 25th on the national list in the long jump, will attempt to qualify for nationals this weekend. Sweeney's best jump this season of 24-11.25 came at last weekends C-USA Indoor Championships. He will need to jump at least 25-2.00 to have a chance to qualify.
The Missouri City, Texas native will also attempt to qualify in the 60m dash. His time of 6.74 ranks 42nd, he will need to break 6.67 for a chance at nationals.
Women's jumper Tai'shea Reese will also attend the meet in attempts to move up the standings in the long jump. Reese is currently tied 14th with her jump of 20-6.25 and needs to stay within the nation's top-16 to qualify for nationals.
DeMeeka Jones will be entered in the 60m Hurdles, where she currently ranks 32nd with her time of 8.32. Jones ran a season-best time 8.28 at the New Balance Invitational in New York, but the time was removed from the national list due to a rules violation by the meet.
