MISSOURI CITY, Texas - University of Houston freshman Blair Hamilton posted a 1-under-par-70 during the final round of the HBU Husky Invitational to lead the Cougars and finish ninth with a 54-hole score of 216.
Hamilton was one of four Cougars to finish among the tournament's top-15 individual leaders on the 6,931-yard, par-71 course at Quail Valley Golf Club. Fellow freshmen Vincent Martino shot a final-round 72 and tied for 10th at 217, while Andrew Ertel posted a 73 to finish 13th at 218.
Junior Bryn Flanagan tied for 15th with a score of 220 after a final-round 74.
With only four student-athletes competing as individuals, the Cougars did not register a team score in the day's final standings.
Host Houston Baptist won the team championship with a score of 838, 33 strokes ahead of second-place Florida Atlantic. Sam Houston State finished third at 872, while Louisiana-Monroe (873) and Texas-Pan American (895) rounded out the top-five leaders.
Individually, HBU's Andy Ariens won medalist honors with a score of 205, thanks to a final-round 65. Louisiana-Monroe's Mason Seaborn finished second at 207, while HBU's Jeffrey Merrell and Albert Miner of Sam Houston State tied for third at 208.
UP NEXT
With the end of the Lone Star Invitational, the Cougars will conclude their fall season. Houston returns to action on Feb. 22-24 when it teams with Rice to play host to the Redstone Collegiate Championships, held at Redstone Golf Club.
