HOUSTON - University of Houston golf signees Roman Robledo and Kyle Pilgrim recently added some hardware to their trophy cases after being named to the UIL Class 5A All-State teams.
Robledo was a First-Team selection out of Harlingen South High, while Pilgrim earned a place on the Second Team as a Colleyville Heritage High product. Both student-athletes signed with the Cougars in November and will compete as freshmen in 2011-12.
Robledo captured his fourth consecutive District 31-5A individual championship as a senior in 2010-11. With back-to-back 74s, he also helped lead the Hawks to the team title.
Pilgrim won a playoff to earn the final berth at the state tournament and was a Texas Academic All-State honoree as well.
Both players join a Cougar program that earned five top-five team finishes a year ago and tied for fourth at the Conference USA Championships, the team's best showing since 2003.
Under the leadership of head coach Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars regularly competed with a young lineup that featured four true freshmen and a sophomore in his first semester at Houston.
