Cougar Student-Athletes Honored with Degrees

HOUSTON - Thirty-seven current and former University of Houston student-athletes received diplomas over the weekend at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Houston football team led the way with eight graduates, while the men's and women's track and field teams each had six student-athletes receive diplomas, including Conference USA individual champions Wesley Bray, Jason Perez, Jonathan Williams, Quin'shundolyn McPherson and Christi Jones, who was also a 2010 NCAA Outdoor All-American.

Of the 37 graduates, 13 were recently named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor roll, including Wesley Bray (men's track and field), Lamar Delaney (men's track and field), Emmanuel Osadebey (men's track and field), Katy Beth Sherman (softball), Bailey Lott (softball), Angela Spittler (softball), Caleb Ramsey (baseball), Austin Gracey (baseball), Ryan Still (baseball), Nikki Echeverria (soccer), Shannan Arnold (women's track and field), Christi Jones (women's track and field) and Loyce Means (football).

As of fall 2010, UH student-athletes achieved their highest-ever overall GPA and most hours passed per semester. Fifteen percent of UH student-athletes were named to the Dean's List and 140 student-athletes earned C-USA Honor Roll accolades. Among the 140, 19 students were named C-USA Commissioner's Medalists, which goes to those with a 3.75 GPA or higher.
