Track and Field Wraps Up Busy Weekend

HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team split the squad up this weekend as a portion of the team traveled to the New Balance Invitational in New York while the remainder of the team remained in Houston to host the Howie Ryan All-Comers Meet.
Errol Nolan won the 400m dash at the New Balance Invitational in a school-record time of 46.46 Saturday evening in New York. The sophomore sprinter bested the field for the third time this year. His mark broke the 14-year record previously held by Chris Jones. The time was the fourth fastest in the NCAA this year.
Kelvin Furlough also ran a great race in the 400m, placing third and setting a personal record in 47.11.
Joining Nolan in the winner's circle in New York was Doug Kelley, who won the 800m race in a personal record time of 1:51.59. That mark is the third fastest in program history.
Senior Jason Perez also won an event, the 500m run, in 1:05.49.
Senior Chris Carter earned two third-place finishes, in the triple jump and the long jump. In the long jump, Carter set a personal record with his 7.49m/24-7 leap.
Kiara Pulliam placed fifth in the women's shot put, equaling her personal best with her toss of 14.62m/47-11.75.
The men finished in ninth place at the New Balance Invitational in a loaded field with many top-25 squads competing. The women placed 25th.
At the Howie Ryan All-Comer's Meet, Alex Bentley won his third pole vault competition of the year.
The Howie Ryan Meet was unscored and many UH runners were there helping run the event that honored longtime Cougar great, Howie Ryan. Ryan coached at Houston from 1976 to 2002.

Houston travels to the Texas A&M Challenge this Saturday to team up with normal Conference USA Rivals, Rice and UTEP, to face off against some of the nations best as Big 12 and SEC conference rivals also team up for league supremacy.
