HOUSTON - University of Houston fans and alumni are invited to stop by the President's Pavilion outside Robertson Stadium while tailgating for Saturday's football game against SMU for a fundraiser to benefit former women's basketball head coach Joe Curl.
Curl, who led the Cougars from 1998-2010, has battled health issues over the past few years and is currently in need of a heart transplant. All Cougars are encouraged to stop by the tailgate and help the Curl family, who is facing overwhelming medical costs.
The tailgate will open at noon, prior to the 2:30 p.m. kickoff, and the cost is $10. Hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken, along with beverages, will be provided.
Curl holds the Houston women's basketball record with 193 wins in 12 seasons and was at the helm of the 2003-04 squad that won 28 contests and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, resulting in National Coach of the Year honors.
