The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics made increasing the football season ticket base a high priority in the 2010 offseason and in doing so had the largest increase in the NCAA this season at 82 percent. The final season ticket number for 2010 was 11,477 for an increase of 5,167 over last year's 6,310.
The Birmingham News published a report of NCAA FBS season ticket numbers and the increase or decrease from the 2009 season. In that report, UH saw the largest increase among all participating in the survey (68-of-120) by nearly 40 percent. The next biggest jump came from fellow Conference USA foe, Marshall, with a 45 percent increase.
Houston Athletics enlisted the help of current donors and season ticket holders to assist in the heavy push with the Seat `Em Up Drive, which resulted in over 2,200 new season tickets.
"I can't say enough about the Houston community and its support of the football program," said Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades. "We had so many loyal donors jump on board to help us create more Cougar fans. Their commitment, along with the excitement of the team, made all of this possible. We will work hard to continue this growth in years to come."
