HOUSTON - The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announces that former heavyweight champion George Foreman will meet and greet the over 400 UH Cougar student-athletes on Sunday at the annual Shasta Blast event, which officially ushers in the 2010-11 athletic season.
Foreman will impart the wisdom that he has gained from athletics, life and everything in between to more than 400 Cougar student-athletes.
The native Houstonian will be able to draw on many of his life's success. Following a triumphant career inside the ring that included both a gold medal and heavyweight champion belt, Foreman parlayed his successes into an entrepreneurial empire backed by his Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine. In addition, he authored three books (Going the Extra Smile, George Foreman's Guide to Life, God in my Corner) and is an ordained minister.
Following the presentation, the student-athletes will be served food by their coaches, mingle with other student-athletes and take aim at the bullseye over at the "Dunk Tank."
After the event, the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band will lead the student-athletes, coaches and staffs to Robertson Stadium as they cheer on the Cougar soccer team as it faces Sam Houston State at 7 p.m.
