HOUSTON - Head coach Ryan Turner and the University of Houston cross country program have begun accepting entries for the 2010 Cougar Classic Cross Country Carnival on Aug. 28.
Created for local junior high and high school runners, the Carnival will take place at the University of Houston's intramural fields. The freshmen girls will compete in the first of the 10 races scheduled, with a 7:30 a.m. start.
The freshmen boys are slated to follow as each high school grade level will run against its own class in the 3200-meter race. The junior high girls and boys races will wrap up the morning's competition on the 1600-meter course before the awards ceremony concludes the event.
Team places will be determined by the aggregate time of each schools' five fastest runners, regardless of grade classification. Junior high races will not be scored.
There is no limit on the number of entries allowed in any classification and runners are encouraged to register as individual if they will not be competing for a team.
Runners will receive medals for the first 15 individuals in each race with places 4-15 receiving their medals in the finish line chute. All other awards will be handed out at the awards ceremony. Team plaques will go to the top three teams in the high school divisions. An overall award will go to the top female and top male performer from the meet.
Entries must include:
1. School name
2. Athlete Name
3. Athlete Gender
4. Athlete Grade
Entries need to be emailed to Coach Turner by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26.
