HOUSTON - University of Houston Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades recently announced the hiring of two members to the department's administration and a change of responsibilities for another administrator.
Katina Jackson, who had served as associate athletics director for development, now will work as associate athletics director for major gifts. Jeramiah Dickey was named associate athletics director for development, and Rob Stewart was named assistant athletics director for marketing, promotions and sales.
Katina Jackson
A Houston native, Jackson was named an associate athletics director in 2003 after serving as an assistant AD for five years. During her tenure, she ensured the advancement of annual donations through Cougar Pride.
In her new role, she will oversee all capital campaign projects, most notably the Department's recent new football stadium and complete renovation of Hofheinz Pavilion projects.
"Katina has done a magnificent job in Development throughout her career at Houston," Rhoades said. "As we move forward on our ambitious plans for a new football stadium and the renovation of Hofheinz Pavilion, her talents will be better served in this new position."
Jeramiah Dickey
Dickey joined the Athletics Department after serving for more than two years as assistant athletics director for development at the University of Akron. During his tenure, he played a key role in creating and implementing naming opportunities for a variety of projects, including InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field, the Lee Jackson Track and Field Stadium, the Lee Jackson Soccer Facility and the Center for Basketball Excellence.
Dickey also oversaw the Zips Athletics Scholarship Fund and solicited restricted sport-specific donations as well as major and capital campaign gifts. During a four-year stretch, his office increased overall giving from nearly $900,000 in 2005-06 to more than $2.2 million in 2009-10. It was the first time in the history of the Akron Athletics Department that giving topped the $2 million mark.
"I have worked closely with Jeramiah at several schools throughout my career and been impressed with his work at each institution," Rhoades said. "He is a tireless worker who will enhance and take our Development Office into new and exciting directions."
Dickey, an El Paso, Texas, native, previously worked at UTEP with Rhoades as the assistant director for athletics development. In addition to his primary role of managing and developing the Miner Athletic Club Annual Gift Fund, he successfully coordinate several projects, including a volunteer fund drive, resulting in nearly $400,000 in new season ticket sales and donations and a business campaign resulting in more than $40,000 in new contributions.
He began his tenure at UTEP in 2003, moving through marketing and promotions as the assistant director before making the transition to development. During his one year in that position, he generated revenue through sponsorship and group ticket sales while acting as the community relations and advertising coordinator.
Dickey earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from the University of Texas in 2004. As an undergraduate, he assisted in the marketing and promotion of the Longhorn Softball program and monitored signage for sponsors at Darryl Royal Memorial Stadium.
He will receive his master's degree in sports science and coaching from Akron in August 2010.
Rob Stewart
A native of Houston and Stratford High product, Stewart came to Houston after a lengthy career at Texas A&M. Most recently, he served as director of marketing for the last two years and worked as the director of in-game marketing from 2004 to 2008.
In those roles, he oversaw the direction and implementation of the 12th Man Team Rewards Program, a fan loyalty program that broke attendance records for all sports offered at Texas A&M and served as a model for numerous schools across the nation.
Stewart also coordinated the efforts of the 2007 and 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Games, which raised more than $35,000 at a single women's basketball game each year.
From 1999 to 2004, he worked as the Aggies' promotions and game operations coordinator, implementing promotions for football, soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's tennis.
During his career in College Station, Stewart served as the marketing coordinator for several national events, including the Women's College Cup, NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, NCAA Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships and the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
"Rob led the marketing efforts of some of the nation's premier collegiate events at Texas A&M, and we are excited about the knowledge and experience he will bring to our Marketing, Promotions and Sales Office," Rhoades said. "As we look to enhance the game-day experience for fans at all of our events, Rob and his staff will play a key role in its continued development."
He also served as a site representative at the 2008 and 2009 NITs and was a member of the Game Management and "Final Four Friday" Organizing Committee at the 2008 NCAA Basketball Final Four.
Stewart earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology with specialization in sport management from Texas A&M in 1997. Two years later, he added his master's degree in kinesiology with specialization in sport management.
