HOUSTON - Charlissa Foster, a thrower on the Houston track and field team, was named one of 12 recipients of the Spirit of Service Award, announced by Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky Thursday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Sprit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season. Today's honorees represent the spring sport season including rowing, softball and outdoor track and field.
The junior from Cameron, Texas has dedicated her time to helping others by volunteering at the Texas Children's Hospital and Children's Museum. She is also active within the Houston campus serving as the representative for the track and field team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of the Student Government Association. The biology and pre-med major participated in the annual StepOut for Diabetes Walk and is a member of Greek Lift.
On the field, Foster competes at a high level in the throwing events including both the shot put and discus. She also excels in the classroom as demonstrated by her inclusion to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Foster is also a star in the community with her selfless attitude and positive spirit.
Quarterback Case Keenum won the Spirit of Service Award during the fall season and women's basketball guard Roxanna Button earned the prestigious award during the winter season.
