HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team will be competing at the 31st Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on April 9-10. The Cougars are coming off a strong showing at the 83rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and look to carry their success over to this upcoming meet.
The event will be hosted by Arizona State and held at Sun Angel Stadium. The field events will begin Friday at 9 a.m., and the track events will start Saturday at 11:50 a.m.
The Cougars finished in the top-five, 10 times at the Texas Relays with five members setting personal bests. Sophomore Ciera Johnson finished second in the 800m with a personal best run of 2:10.00, while sophomore Doug Kelley also finished second in the 800m running a time of 1:50.41. Both the women's and men's 4x100 teams placed second and third, respectively.
Last years Sun Angel Classic brought much success for the Cougar track and field team, with seven regional qualifying marks being set. Junior Kalyn Floyd looks to defend her crown in the 400m dash. This Houston, Texas native set a regional qualifying time, running a 53.03. Junior Chris Carter set a NCAA RQ mark jump of 16.05m (52-08.00) to finish second in the triple jump. Three members of the regional mark setting women's 4x100m relay team will be returning to this competition. Sophomores Whitney Harris and Grecia Bolton and Floyd will look to improve on their fourth place effort in this race.
