Track and Field Complete Double-Duty This Weekend

The University of Houston track and field team concluded the weekend with the Rice Twilight Meet held at the Holloway Field and Ley Track, taking home two first-place finishes.
Junior Jason Perez earned his first gold during the outdoor season as he finished in 50.83 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Senior Jonathon Ochoa also notched his first victory in the outdoor competition, winning the javelin competition with his distance of 58.42 meters (191-8 feet).
The Cougars finished second and third in the triple jump with Chris Carter's distance of 15.45-meters (50-8.25) and Lamar Delaney right behind at 15.02-meters (49-3.25).
The Cougars placed three shot putters in the top nine as Mike Sanchez, Teonor Davilmar and Matt Dudley placed third, fourth and ninth respectively. Their distances were 16.26 (53-4.25), 16.01 (52.6.75), 15.22 meters (49-11.25). Davilmar and Dudley's marks were personal bests.
Sophomore Megan Munoz shaved 15 seconds off her personal best in the 5,000-meter after she earned seventh place in 18:16.66.
This was the first time for Laura Allred to compete during the outdoor season and she cleared 1.62 meters (5-3.75) in the high jump to earn fourth place.
Freshman Karley King has continued her climb in the standings each week as she bettered her finish in the pole vault, and set a new personal record, finishing third after clearing 3.70 meters (12-1.5).
Andres Santaolalla improved upon his personal record in the grueling 3,000-meter Steeplechase as he finished the gauntlet in 9:48.70.
UP NEXT
The Cougars have the next two weeks off as they prepare for final exams and then the Conference USA Championships in Orlando, Fla., May 13-16 at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex. The men captured their sixth C-USA Outdoor season title last year while the women finished in fourth place.
