COLUMBUS, Ohio -The University of Houston golf team stood in 10th place following the first two rounds of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday evening.
Competing on the 7,451-yard, par-71 Scarlet course at The Ohio State University Golf Club, the Cougars posted a team score of 302 in Saturday's morning round and followed that with a score of 304 in the afternoon session to finish the first day at 606.
The third and final round is slated to tee off at 7:30 a.m., (CDT) Sunday. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
Penn State and Eastern Michigan were tied for the team lead at 575. Northwestern (580), Kent State (585) and Oklahoma (588) rounded out the top-five team leaders.
Individually, junior Clark Mitzner topped the Cougars, shooting a 149 to tie for 29th place. Other Cougars in action were junior Justin Kaplan (151, t-37th), redshirt freshman Joseph Reynolds (153, t-43rd), senior Jackie Lindsey (155, t-55th) and junior Matt Eschenburg (162, 63rd).
Penn State's Kevin Foley stood atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under-par 137, with Northwestern State's David Lipsky, one stroke behind. Eastern Michigan's Cam Burke (-2) and Charlotte's Corey Nagy (-1) were the only other players under par through 36 holes.
UP NEXT
Following the Kepler Intercollegiate, the Cougars take two weeks off before returning to action April 25-27 at the Conference USA Championships, hosted by UCF at RedTail Golf Club in Orlando.
