HOUSTON - After clocking a personal best of 23.41 in the 200m dash finals to finish sixth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Kalyn Floyd joined the nation's elite as she was named an All-America honoree over the weekend.
The Houston, Texas native qualified for the event at the Texas A&M Challenge on Feb. 13 with a then personal best time of 23.49.
No stranger to success, Floyd broke the 400m school record as she ran a 53.30 in the prelims at the New Balance Invitational on Feb. 6. She also served as the leadoff leg on the women's 4x400m relay team that set a provisional mark with a time of 3:37.60 at the Texas A&M Challenge.
At the Conference USA Championships, Floyd took silver in the 200m dash with a provisional-qualifying time of 24.12 and finished third in the 400m dash, clocking a 55.40.
The last female Cougar to be named an Indoor All-American was in 2007 when Floyd's older sister, Ebonie, finished sixth in the 200m with the school record time of 22.98. Ebonie Floyd was a four-time All-American in addition to earning nine individual conference championship titles.
The two sisters are not the only track stars in the family. Their father, Stanley, was a standout track student-athlete at Houston and was the 1982 NCAA 100m champion and the 1982 NCAA 60m runner-up. Their mother, Delisa, finished fifth in the 800m at the 1988 Olympics and was a nine-time National Champion and 12-time All-American at Tennessee.
