TEAM NOTES
* With Saturday's win, the Cougars moved into a tie atop the Conference USA West Division at 3-1 with SMU.
* Houston improved to 125-124-6 (.502) all-time during the month of October.
SERIES HISTORY vs. SMU
* With Saturday's win, Houston won its fifth straight game against SMU and won for the seventh time in the last eight meetings. Only a 29-24 loss in Houston on Nov. 19, 2005, prevents a longer Houston winning streak.
* Houston improved to 15-9-1 (.620) all-time against SMU.
* Houston improved to 8-3 (.727) all-time against SMU in Dallas.
* This was the sixth straight season that Houston played SMU in football.
HEAD COACH Kevin Sumlin NOTES
* Sumlin improved to 22-12 (.647) during his career.
* Sumlin improved to 3-0 all-time against SMU during his career.
* Sumlin improved to 2-0 all-time against SMU at Gerald J. Ford Stadium during his career.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
* With Saturday's win, true freshman quarterback David Piland recorded his first victory as the Cougars' starting quarterback.
* True freshman quarterback David Piland threw at least one touchdown pass for the third straight game to open his collegiate career... It was the first time that Piland did not throw at least two touchdown passes in a game.
* With three receptions, junior wide receiver Tyron Carrier moved past 200 catches during his career... Carrier now has 201 receptions in his career, becoming only the sixth player to reach that milestone... Carrier joined Vincent Marshall (272), Orlando Iglesias (222), Manny Hazard (220), Donnie Avery (210) and current offensive coordinator Jason Phillips (207).
* With one touchdown, junior wide receiver Patrick Edwards now has 16 touchdowns receptions during his career... Edwards is tied with current teammate Tyron Carrier, Mark Hafner (2005-08) and Marcus Grant (1989-91) for 10th place in school career history.
* Junior running back Bryce Beall's 2-yard touchdown run at the 7:56 mark of the fourth quarter was his team-leading 12th rushing score of the season.
* With two rushing touchdowns, junior running back Bryce Beall recorded his fourth multi-touchdown game of the 2010 season and the eighth of his career.
** With two rushing touchdowns, junior running back Bryce Beall recorded the 32nd rushing score of his career and set a Houston record... Beall topped the previous record of 31 touchdowns by Jackie Battle (2003-06).
* With 12 rushing touchdowns this season, junior running back Bryce Beall moved into a tie for sixth in Houston single-season history... Beall joined Robert Newhouse (1971), Leonard Parker (1973) and Ketric Sanford (1999) in that group... Up next in the Houston records book are Paul Gipson (1968) and Beall (2008), who each rushed for 13 touchdowns during their respective seasons.
* With two rushing touchdowns, junior running back Michael Hayes recorded the second multi-touchdown game of the 2010 season and his career.
* With his 91-yard kickoff return for touchdown, junior Tyron Carrier recorded his first kickoff return score in 2010 and the sixth of his career... Clemson's C.J. Spiller holds the NCAA career record with seven kickoff return for touchdowns.
* Junior Tyron Carrier's 91-yard kickoff return at the 4:58 mark of the third quarter was his first kickoff return score since a 79-yard kickoff return to start the second half against Air Force at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 31, 2009.
* With 179 all-purpose yards (137 return, 42 receive), junior Tyron Carrier moved past 5,000 all-purpose yards during his career... Carrier now has 5,033 career-all-purpose yards (296 rush, 2,320 receive, 150 punt return, 2,267 kick return).
** With 5,033 career all-purpose yards through the SMU game, junior Tyron Carrier became only the third player in Houston history to reach that milestone... Carrier joined Ketric Sanford (5,817, 1996-99) and Chuck Weatherspoon (5,715, 1987-90) to achieve that feat.
* With three receptions, junior wide receiver Tyron Carrier recorded a catch in his 34th consecutive game.
* Junior linebacker Marcus McGraw's interception and 38-yard return around the 5:19 mark of the fourth quarter was the first pickoff of his career.
* Senior safety Jacky Candy's interception and 18-yard return around the 2:40 mark of the third quarter was the first pickoff of his career.
* With a forced fumble, junior linebacker Sammy Brown tied his personal best... His total equaled his total against UTEP on Sept. 10.
* With a fumble recovery, senior linebacker Matt Nicholson recorded his third recovery this season and the fourth of his career... He most recently recovered a fumble at UCLA on Sept. 18.
* Senior safety Jacky Candy made his first collegiate start.
