As part of the ongoing effort to bring role models to the Houston community, University of Houston student-athletes took part in Harvard Elementary School's Literacy Night in the Houston Heights.
Harvard attendees could visit different classrooms to hear readings by a number of teachers and local celebrities. Nine athletes from basketball, softball, track and swimming and diving.
"It means so much to the kids to have UH athletes at the event," said Amanda Makin, Harvard's Literacy coach. "They are role models to the kids in so many ways. They play sports, which interests so many of our students and with them being college students it teaches the kids about all the possibilities out there. The room was packed for them, so obviously they are a big hit."
