HOUSTON - The University of Houston cross country team will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the LSU Tiger XC Festival. The meet begins at Highland Park with the women's 5000 meter race at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8000 meter at 9:45 a.m.
"Competing at LSU is always one of our favorite meets of the season. This meet gives our team an opportunity to compete against some schools within our region that we don't see each week. I'm expecting Tulane women to provide us a challenge. They've just hired a new coach and have some very talented runners," said head coach Ryan Turner.
Last year was the team's first year to run at LSU and the women's side placed first out of nine teams, while the men were fourth out of 11 teams.
"Last year we were young, and this was the first 8,000 meter race for many of our guys. We're still young, but we're seasoned now and I expect our guys to challenge the schools that beat us last year," Turner said about the men's side this year at the LSU meet.
At this meet last year Stephanie Aldea won as a freshman, while five of the women placed in the top 12.
"I expect our women to do what they've been trained to do, run fast. I have no doubt that they'll compete to the best of their ability and run with pride," said Tuner.
After LSU, the Cougars will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational.
