Swimming and Diving Summer Update

HOUSTON - With the summer months in full swing, the University of Houston swimming and diving team chose to stay active in the off season, which has been highlighted by Sasha Schwendenwein's performance at the 25th World Student Games.
The 25th World Student Games kicked off July 1 and will run through July 15 in Belgrade, Serbia. The event consists of 13 sports, including swimming, while featuring 6,300 athletes from 142 countries.
Schwendenwein competed in her first two events at the games over the weekend where she placed 22nd in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 28.17. She also placed 22nd in the 100-meter freestyle in 57.12. Both events consisted of 44 participants.
The South Africa native will continue competition on Tuesday in the 100-meter butterfly. She will also swim in the 200-meter freestyle (Thursday), 200-meter butterfly (Friday) and the 400-meter freestyle (Saturday).
This competition will not be the only summer event for the Cougars. On July 26-August 2, Kim Eeson (Zimbabwe) and Anastasia Pozdniakova (Russia) will compete for their home countries at the 13th International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Championships in Rome. Eeson will be coached at the event by current UH head swimming coach Mark Taylor.
The summer will close out on August 5-9, when Schwendenwein will compete at the Austrian National Swimming Championships.
