The University of Houston's quest to repeat as champions of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl began today, when the entire squad and coaching staff arrived in Fort Worth on Sunday evening.
The No. 25 Cougars arrived by bus around 5:30 pm, checked into their hotel and then headed off to the world-famous Billy Bob's for the official Team Welcome Party, along with their opponent in the game, Air Force. While at Billy Bob's, the Cougars enjoyed a barbeque dinner and then were treated to a "gunfight" between assistant coaches of both teams.
Houston assistant coaches B.J. Anderson, Leon Burtnett and Jim Jeffcoat bettered the Air Force in the competition, 2-1, in the friendly interaction between the two teams.
The Cougars are slated to practice tomorrow morning at 11 am, and then take part in a Comedy Show and dinner later in the evening.
The Cougars enter the Armed Forces Bowl with a 10-3 record, while the Falcons are 7-5 on the year. The two teams met last season in the post-season event, with UH prevailing, 34-28.
