Houston, Texas - University of Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced today that his program has signed junior-college linebacker Sammy Brown to a National Letter of Intent.
A 6-3, 232-pound inside linebacker from Wiggins, Miss., Brown starred for two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gulfport. This past season he racked up 64 tackles, including 39 unassisted and five for losses, as well as six sacks, one forced fumble and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
Brown helped MGCCC to 9-3 final record as well as a No. 8 national ranking. For the third straight season, MGCCC captured the South Division. He is a three-star recruit from both Rivals.com and Scout.com, and Scout had him listed as the nation's No. 2 junior-college outside linebacker.
For his efforts on the field, Brown was named Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges Second Team All-State. Brown played high school ball at Stone High School in Wiggins, Miss.
