TEAM NOTES
** Saturday's win was Houston's first road victory against a ranked team since a 29-15 win over No. 3 Texas on Nov. 10, 1984, in Austin, Texas.
** Saturday's win was Houston's first victory against a ranked team since a 56-49 win in overtime against No. 20 Southern Miss on Nov. 9, 1996... The win snapped an 18-game losing streak to ranked opponents.
** Saturday's game was the Cougars' first contest against a ranked team since falling 65-27 against No. 8 Louisville (Nov. 20, 2004).
** The Cougars' 41 points scored was the most in a conference opener in regulation since a 51-35 win at Texas Tech (Sept. 13, 1990)... The Cougars scored 41 points in a 44-41 loss in double overtime at C-USA rival UTEP (Sept. 16, 2005) and in a 41-38 win in double overtime over former C-USA rival Cincinnati (Oct. 18, 1997).
** Saturday's 17-point win against No. 23 East Carolina was the Cougars' biggest in the all-time series against the Pirates... It topped UH's 14-point win (27-13) on Sept. 30, 2003, in Greenville.
** With 41 points, the Cougars scored in their 98th consecutive game... The Cougars have not been shut out since a 48-0 loss at Texas on Sept. 23, 2000.
** The Cougars improved to 4-5 (.444) all-time against East Carolina... The Cougars improved to 3-1 (.750) all-time against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
** The Cougars improved to 79-90-4 (.468) all-time when playing in the month of September.
** Houston improved to 7-3 (.700) all-time when playing on Sept. 27... The Cougars also extended their winning streak to three games on that date, dating back to 1980.
** The Cougars improved to 30-15-1 (.663) all-time when playing in their conference openers and have won their last three games.... UH has not lost a conference opener since a 44-41 loss in double overtime at C-USA rival UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.
** The Cougars improved to 9-4 (.692) all-time in their Conference USA openers.
** The Cougars improved to 24-21-1 (.532) all-time in their conference road openers with wins in each of their last three road openers... UH has not lost a conference road opener since a 44-41 loss in double overtime at C-USA rival UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.
** The Cougars improved to 6-7 (.462) all-time in their Conference USA road openers.
** The Cougars improved 7-1 (.857) all-time in games televised by CBS College Sports/CSTV and have won their last seven games televised by that network... The Cougars have not lost a game on CBS College Sports/CSTV since a 35-20 setback against C-USA rival Memphis on Oct. 15, 2005.
** The Cougars improved to 8-7-1 (.531) all-time against teams from the state of North Carolina.
** The Cougars improved to 41-45 (.477) all-time in C-USA games.
** With an interception at the 10:40 mark of the first quarter, the Cougars forced their first turnover since the 6:21 mark of the second quarter at Oklahoma State on Sept. 6, 2008, a span of nearly 163 minutes of play.
** With an 11-yard interception return for touchdown, East Carolina's Emanuel Davis became the first player to accomplish that feat against the Cougars since Kansas' Charlton Keith returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown during the 2005 Fort Worth Bowl (Dec. 23, 2005).
** Sophomore quarterback Case Keenum's 84-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Kierrie Johnson at the 14:06 mark of the fourth quarter was the ninth-longest pass in UH history.
** In Saturday's game, the Cougars enjoyed a 300-yard passer (Case Keenum, 399 yds., 100-yard rusher (Bryce Beall (132 yds) and two 100-yard receivers (Patrick Edwards, 146 yds.; Kierrie Johnson (104 yds.)... It was the first time the Cougars had a 300-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and one 100-yard receiver in one game since quarterback Blake Joseph (318 passing yds.), Anthony Alridge (205 rushing yds.) and Donnie Avery (346 receiving yds.) against Rice on Oct. 13, 2007).
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
** With 399 passing yards, sophomore quarterback Case Keenum set a personal high... His total topped his previous best of 392 yards against Southern (Aug. 30, 2008).
** With three touchdowns, sophomore quarterback Case Keenum has thrown a touchdown pass in eight consecutive games.
** With three touchdowns, sophomore quarterback Case Keenum recorded the eighth multi-touchdown game of his career... It also was the fifth game of his career with at least three touchdown passes and his fifth straight game with at least three touchdown passes to open the 2008 season.
** With 399 passing yards, sophomore quarterback Case Keenum recorded the sixth 300-yard passing game during of his career... The Cougars improved to 2-4 (.333) during games in which Keenum throws for 300 yards.
** With 399 passing yards, sophomore quarterback Case Keenum recorded his sixth consecutive game with at least 300 passing yards... He became the first Cougar quarterback to accomplish that feat since Jimmy Klingler from Oct. 24-Nov. 28, 1992... Jimmy Klingler's brother David Klingler was the last Cougar quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in six straight games, accomplishing that feat from Sept. 8 to Oct. 27, 1990.
** With 132 rushing yards, freshman running back Bryce Beall recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career ... The Cougars improved to 1-0 in games in which Beall reached triple digits.
** With two touchdowns, freshman running back Bryce Beall recorded the first multi-rushing touchdown game of his career.
** With two rushing touchdowns, freshman running back Bryce Beall set a personal high... His total topped his previous best of one rushing touchdown set at Oklahoma State (Sept. 6, 2008).
** With 132 rushing yards, freshman running back Bryce Beall set a personal single-game high... His total topped his previous high of 91 yards at Colorado State (Sept. 20, 2008).
** With 22 carries, freshman running back Bryce Beall set a personal best in that category... His total topped his previous high of 14 attempts at Colorado State (Sept. 20, 2008).
** Redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edward's 44-yard reception on the Cougars' second possession in the first quarter was a career long... It topped his previous long of 27 yards set at Oklahoma State (Sept. 6, 2008) and against Southern (Aug. 30, 2008).
** With 140 receiving yards, redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards recorded the second 100-yard receiving game of his career... The Cougars improved to 1-1 (.500) in games in which Edwards reached triple digits.
** With 140 receiving yards, redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards set a career high in that category... His total topped his previous high of 106 yards at Oklahoma State (Sept. 6, 2008).
** With 11 catches, redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards set a personal high... His total topped his previous best of eight catches at Oklahoma State (Sept. 6, 2008).
** With 11 catches, redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards became the first player to record double-digit receptions since Donnie Avery against TCU (10 catches) during the Texas Bowl (Dec. 28, 2007).
** With 104 receiving yards, sophomore wide receiver Kierrie Johnson set a personal high... His total topped his previous best of 66 yards against Southern (Aug. 30, 2008).
** With 104 receiving yards, sophomore wide receiver Kierrie Johnson enjoyed the first 100-yard receiving game of his career... The Cougars improved to 1-0 when Johnson reached triple digits.
** Redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards (140 yards) and sophomore wide receiver Kierrie Johnson (104 yards) became the first duo to enjoy 100-yard receiving games in the same game since Vincent Marshall (139 yards) and Donnie Avery (112 yards) accomplished the feat against C-USA rival Memphis (Oct. 1, 2005).
** With one touchdown reception, senior tight end Mark Hafner recorded his fifth straight game with at least one touchdown catch.
** With nine catches, redshirt freshman wide receiver Tyron Carrier set a personal high... His total topped his previous best of eight at Air Force (Sept. 13, 2008)
** Junior cornerback Brandon Brinkley's interception at the 10:39 mark of the first quarter was his team-leading second interception of 2008 and the fifth pickoff of his career.
** Senior cornerback Quinte Williams recorded the first interception of his career and the 2008 season at the 12:45 mark of the fourth quarter.
** With two field goals, junior kicker Ben Bell recorded his first game of the 2008 season and the eight game of his career with at least two field goals.
