HOUSTON-- The University of Houston's head cross country coach, Ryan Turner announced Monday the 2008 schedule, which includes the Johnny Morriss UH Invitational.
"I really like our schedule this year," Turner said. "For one, we have a good balance of developmental and quality meets for our athletes to compete in. Secondly, I like that we're competing closer to home, giving our alumni, family and friends more opportunities to see us compete."
The Cougars will open the season as hosts of the Johnny Morriss UH Invitational on Aug. 29, and stay in Houston for the Rice Invitational at Rice University Sept. 20.
Houston will then travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU Tiger Festival, Sept. 27 and Orlando, Florida for the Disney World Classic, Oct. 11.
The Cougars will return to Texas, Oct. 18 to compete in the Sam Houston Invitational in Huntsville.
The 2008 Conference USA Championships, hosted by Memphis, will take place on Nov. 1. Last year the men's team placed fifth and the women's team placed 11th in the championships hosted by UTEP.
"As a team, our goals are always going to focus around winning the C-USA championship and bringing national exposure to our program and to the University of Houston. Both of which are attainable." Turner said.
Following the C-USA Championships, the Cougars will travel to Waco, Texas Nov. 15 to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional.
The 2008 season will close out with the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Nov. 24.
The Cougars are hosting the UH Cougar Classic Aug. 23, which is a high school only meet.
This year's men's team will be lead by junior Ahmed Harb. The women's team will be lead by junior Erica Hannemann.
"We've signed some very competitive and talented kids and they're going to be good people for the future of our program. It should be fun and interesting to watch it unfold," Tuner said.
