All-Midwest Region Track and Field Teams Announced

HOUSTON - Twelve members of the University of Houston track and field team were named 2008 US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Outdoor Regional All-Americans on Tuesday, as announced by the USTFCCCA.
All student-athletes named to All-Region finished in the Top Eight of his or her event at last weekends Midwest Regional meet.
Freshman Tyrone Carrier led the team with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash. Carrier ran a season best time of 20.60 to earn a bid to compete at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
Currently holding the top mark in Conference USA in the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Jason Perez earned a spot on the All-Midwest Region Team finishing fifth with a clocking of 50.37.
Junior Seun Adigun finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.43.
Also named to the team was sophomore Alex Bentley, who set a personal record in the men's pole vault competition, clearing 5.21m (17-01.00) to finish seventh.
The women's 4X400m relay team of sophomore Quin'shundolyn McPherson, freshman Kalyn Floyd, freshman Candyce Cross and junior LaNeeka Allen also earned All Region status with a third place finish.
In the 4x100m, the women's team of junior Dayo Ogunniyi, Floyd, Adigun and McPherson finished sixth at the Midwest Regional.
For the men, freshman Ed Turner, freshman Steven Jones, senior Tremaine Smith and Carrier earned All Region honors in the 4X100 after placing fifth after running a season best time of 39.85.
All athletes who qualified for the NCAA Championships will prepare for the upcoming meet, which will be held June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
