Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at Brutus Hamilton Invitational

HOUSTON -- Tremaine Smith and Jason Perez recorded regional qualifying marks in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively, to lead the University of Houston track and field team through the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkley, Calif.
In all, the Cougars notched six regional qualifying marks during the two-day meet.
Smith improved upon his regional mark, posting a time of 21.21 to finish fourth in the 200m. His time is currently the third-fastest clocked in Conference USA this season. Tyrone Carrier and Dominic Milton also ran for Houston, finishing with times of 21.77 and 22.02, respectively.
Perez won the 400-meter hurdles, bettering his own regional qualifying time with a mark of 51.35. His mark also is tops in C-USA and is currently the ninth-best recorded in the Midwest Region. Also running for Houston in the 400m was Darryl Cloud (54.20) and Emanuel Osadeby (55.16).
Ashley Bryant finished third in the women's discus competition, bettering her regional qualifying mark with a hurl of 50.46m (165-07) to lead the Cougars.
The current Conference leader in the 100-meter hurdles, Seun Adigun posted a time of 13.88 in the prelims. Running the 110-meter hurdles for the men was Steven Jones, who finished sixth with a mark of 14.94.
The Cougars swept the Top-Two places in the men's triple jump competition, as Chris Carter and Thomas Lang finished one and two in the event. Carter posted a leap of 14.82m (48-07.50), while Lang notched a mark of 14.70m (48-02.75).
In the long jump, Ed Turner grabbed second place, clearing a season-best 7.25m (23-09.50). Wesley Bray cleared 6.97m (22-10.50) to finish fourth, while Grant Hightower recorded a leap of 6.32m (22-09.00).
For the women, Dayo Ogunniyi finished in seventh with a leap of 5.79m (19-00.00), and Quin'shundolyn McPherson finished in tenth with mark of 5.64m (18-06.00).
Ogunniyi finished fifth in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.06. Kalyn Floyd also competed, posting a mark of 12.18 to finish eleventh. For the men, Smith finished in seventh with a season-best time of 10.66. Also running were Tyrone Carrier (10.82), Turner (10.97) and Steven Jones (11.67).
In the pole vault, Alex Bentley finished in a tie for sixth with a clearance of 4.90m (16-00.75) in the men's "A" section. Bryan Brown, Bray and Levi Tatum all finished tied with a clearance of 4.30m (14-01.25).
For the women, Morgan Lancaster finished in third with a clearance of 3.55m (11-07.75) in the "B" section.
In the relays, the men's 4X100-meter and the women's 4X400-meter teams both finished in first and bettered their regional qualifying marks with marks of 40.28 and 3:38.09, respectively. The men's relay time is currently tops in Conference , while the women's mark is currently the second-fastest recorded this year.
The men's 4X400-meter relay team also took a first-place finish, recording a season-best time of 3:10.39 - second-fastest in Conference this year.
In the 400-meter dash, Justin Davis finished third with a mark of 47.73, while Lazarus Crumedy finished in sixth with a season-best clocking of 48.24. Also running were Osadeby with a season-best of 50.04 and Milton (50.50).
For the women, Candyce Cross finished in seventh with a time of 56.08.
William Krokey and Brandon Hubbard finished eighth and ninth in the men's hammer throw. Krokey posted a mark of 51.78m (169-10), while Hubbard added a toss of 49.58m (162-08).
In the discus, Hubbard led the Cougars, finishing fourth with a hurl of 49.04m (160-11). Also competing were Sidney Flores (42.23m (138-06)), Krokey (41.90m (137-06)), Bray (35.72m (117-02)) and Morgan Floyd (32.36m (106-02)).
Charlissa Foster finished in seventh-place with a season-best toss of 44.78m (146-11) in the women's discus competition.
In the shot put, Flores led the way with a mark of 14.34m (47-00.75) to finish seventh. Hubbard finished eighth with a mark of 13.43m (44-00.75). Floyd also competed, finishing with a toss of 12.18m (39-11.50).
For the women, Kiarra Pulliam finished in second place with a toss of 13.43m (44-00.75), while Foster also competed, notching a mark of 12.33m (40-05.50).
In other field events, Laura Allred finished in sixth place with a mark of 1.65m (5-05.00) in the high jump. Caresir Hamilton cleared 11.81m (38-09.00) to take fifth in the triple jump. Brittani Williams finished ninth in the javelin, recording a mark of 38.14m (125-01). Floyd finished sixth in the men's javelin with a season-best mark of 58.25m (191-01).
Brittani Mason recorded a season-best mark of 1:05.10 in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the women's 800-meter run, Jennfier Harper (2:16.39) finished in eighth, while LaNeeka Allen (2:21.28) took ninth.
The Cougars return home this weekend, as they host the Houston Invitational on May 2-3 at the Lewis/Tellez Track Complex.
