Golf set for the 2008 C-USA Championships

Houston - The Houston golf team is one of 11 teams set to tee off Sunday morning as the 2008 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship gets underway at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas. The championship consists of three 18-hole rounds, Sunday-Tuesday, April 20-22, being played on the par 72 6,935-yard course. The winner receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regional
The Cougars, placed in the third grouping along with SMU and Southern Miss, are set to tee off at 9:40 a.m. CDT.
Senior Jordan Irwin (Calgary, Alberta/The Masters Academy), who finished in a tie for second at last year's Championship to earn All-Tournament honors, leads the Cougars. Irwin enters the contest coming off a Top-15 finish at last week's River Landing Invitational.
In addition to Irwin, junior Ben Moser (Waterloo, Ontario/Kent State) leads the team with three Top-5 finishes on the season.
Joining Irwin and Moser are juniors' Steven Frazier (Houston, Tx./ St. Thomas) and Brady Shivers (Seminole, Tx./Midland College). Sophomore Jackie Lindsey (Houston, Tx./Jersey Village HS). rounds out the list of Cougar golfers in action this weekend.
UCF enters the tournament as the favorite. The Knights are ranked 19th nationally by Golfweek, as juniors Greg Forest and David Johnson are ranked among the nation's top-65 players.
