Track and Field Wraps up Competition at UTEP Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team set three regional qualifying marks this weekend at the UTEP Invitational held at Kidd Field in El Paso.
Seun Adigun set a qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.62, finishing in second place. Her time is currently the second fastest notched in Conference USA this season.
Also qualifying was Quin'shundolyn McPherson, who posted a time of 23.90 in the women's 200-meter dash, fourth in C-USA.
The women's 4x100 -meter relay team also set a regional qualifying mark at the meet, posting a clocking of 45.43 for the Cougars.
Steven Jones notched a win in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.50. Thomas Lang finished in first place in the men's triple jump, leaping a season-best 14.92m (48-11.50).
Alex Bentley won the men's collegiate pole vault competition, clearing 4.90m (16-00.75).
In the men's long jump, Houston swept the top four places in the collegiate competition. Leading the way was Ed Turner, who finished with a long of 7.14m (23-05.25). Rounding out the competition for the Cougars were Wesley Bray (7.10m), Grant Hightower (6.98m) and Thomas Lang (6.97m).
In the women's javelin, Brittani Williams finished in second place after posting a mark of 42.57m (139-08).
LaNeeka Allen (56.63) and Candyce Cross (57.72) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 400-meter dash.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Justin Davis finished second, posting a clocking of 47.59.
In the 800-mneter run, Adriane Guinn finished fourth with a mark of 2:14.72. Guinn was joined by Jennifer Harper, who finished sixth with a time of 2:15.84, and Lindsey Marshall, who finished seventh with a time of 2:21.53.
Dayo Ogunniyi took sixth place in the women's 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.08. Ed Turner (10.75) and Tremaine Smith (10.82) competed for the men, finishing tenth and tied for eleventh, respectively.
Daryl Cloud finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.71. In the men's 200-meter dash, Lazarus Crumedy finished in ninth place with a mark of 21.73.
In the hammer throw, William Krokey finished in fourth place with a toss of 52.95m (173-09). Brandon Hubbard took fifth with a mark of 50.30m (165-00).
For the women, Ashley Bryant finished in fifth place with a throw of 45.39m (148-11). Kiara Pulliam took eighth, posting a mark of 41.38m (135-09).
In the discus throw, Hubbard (44.92m) and Sydney Flores (42.90m) finished fifth and sixth. For the women, Bryant finished in third place with a mark of 46.44m (152-04). Charlissa Foster took fifth on the strength of a toss of 43.26m (141-11).
Morgan Lancaster finished fourth in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.40m (11-01.75). Laura Allred took third in the high jump, clearing 1.65m (5-05.00).
In the shot put, Flores (14.32m) and Hubbard (13.95m) finished second and third, respectively. For the women, Pulliam (13.74m) and Foster (13.21m) took third place and fourth place.

The Cougars return to action this weekend, as they play host the Tom Tellez Invitational on April 18-19 at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
