Swimming Finishes Third At North Texas Relays

Keller, Texas -- The University of Houston swimming team finished third at the Second Annual North Texas Relays on Friday night in Keller, Texas. The Cougars recorded five top three finishes on their way to scoring 70 points at the meet.
Houston trailed SMU (132 pts.) and TCU (96 pts.) in the final standings, while outscoring North Texas (66 pts.) and Missouri State (56 pts.).
The Cougars top two finishes of the meet came in the 500-meter freestyle relay, the 1500-meter freestyle relay and the 300-meter backstroke relay. The relay team of Brittany Copeland, Jessica Shamburger, Kimberley Eeson and Sasha Schwendenwein finished with a time of 4:35.55 in the 500 freestyle relay. The Houston B team also finished seventh with a time of 5:02.45. In the 1500 freestyle relay, Schwendenwein, Eeson and Olga Bordatcheva finished second with a time of 15:27.17.
The relay team of Jessica Shamburger, Andrea Pa'lmai and Paige Bissett gave Houston its third second place finish with a time of 2:58.46 in the 300-meter backstroke relay. The Houston B team finished ninth in the relay with a time of 3:16.90.
UH added a third place finish in the 300-meter breaststroke relay. Bordatcheva, Beccy Hillis and Doreen Polotzek combined to finish with a time of 3:26.79 while the B team finished eighth with a time of 3:44.67.
Schwendenwein, Pa'lmai, Eeson and Hillis combined to finished third in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 7:45.09 while the B team took ninth with a time of 8:24.92.
Houston notched a fourth and seventh place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay with times of 1:41.55 and 1:50.73, respectively and added a fifth place finish (4:06.42) and a 10th place finish (4:19.13) in the 400-meter medley relay.
The Cougars finished out the afternoon with a sixth place finish (3:01.01) and an eighth place finish (3:08.73) in the 300-meter butterfly relay. They also placed sixth (4:14.01) and 10th (4:27.34) in the 400-meter medley relay.
In the final event of the meet, Houston took home sixth (3:39.05) and ninth (3:54.90) in the 400-meter freestyle relay.
UP NEXT
Houston will compete in a dual against Southwestern on Oct. 10 before returning home to play host to North Texas in a dual on Oct. 11.
